How a Professional Organizer Can Help You with Accountability

When I tell people I’m an organizer, a lot of them say, “Oh, that’s so cool! So…you help people de-clutter and organize their stuff?” Yes I do, especially when one is going through a life transition – where chaos can strike – such as downsizing, starting a new job, or introducing a new family member. However, there is a lot more support professional organizers give when it comes to the more intangible parts of organizing one’s life. Accountability is a big one.

Here are 3 ways organizers can help:

Organizers can ping you.
What is the value of having a teammate, when it comes to holding yourself accountable to your goals? Having that other person virtually by your side, sending you a reminder text, cheerleading you on, keeping you motivated, can help keep you from sinking into your usual habits and keep you in the winning mindset to achieve your goals, step by step, week by week.

We can share tried and true techniques.
One reason I love being an organizer is because I get to keep learning and educating myself in very valuable life skills. In fact all of us at Living-Peace are continuously educating ourselves to be experts in this field – and that includes accountability challenges. Let us shed some light on the issue at hand, and enable you to count on yourself with the right techniques for your style and your goals.

We can hone expectations, define measurable steps, envision outcomes, and connect you to resources you need to succeed.
Is it reasonable to hold yourself and spouse accountable to cleaning out the garage in one month? Do you have a clear idea of the steps it takes to create a functional filing system? If you want to have all your family photos organized, what does that mean or look like, exactly? What resources will you need, and what are available in your area to pare down and renovate your kitchen?

In summary, when it comes to goals, organizers are your teammates with expert guidance that help set you up for success!

Psst…Living-Peace is starting an Accountability group on Facebook!

Coming soon…our own Hillary will be hosting a private Facebook group who’s sole mission is to support each other in staying accountable to ourselves. A support system can make all the difference!

About Sara Luisa Valverde

Supporting people in organizing, time-management, and simplifying has always come naturally for Sara. She´s had the opportunity to hone this skillset in her professional career, most recently while supporting three (incredibly busy) senior professors at Harvard Business School, and while working within a clinical research team at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Since June 2015, she has worked as an independent yoga teacher, specializing in un-learning habitual posture patterns that get in one´s way. Sara honors the act of organizing as both an internal and external process. Her approach is to keep it simple, so you have the mental and physical space for maintaining clarity and peace of mind. She loves that her services in professional organizing bring together two passions: internal and external de-cluttering. She thrives on living a minimalist lifestyle, living as a full-time liveaboard on her beloved sailboat.
