To Make or Not to Make the Bed

Funny how there are just some topics that stir up quite a bit of debate – something that folks feel strongly about and love to convince others to join “their side” of the argument.  Making the bed is one of those topics.  Whenever it comes up in conversation, whether it’s with my other mom-friends, organizer colleagues, or even my husband, it becomes this sticky subject of who’s right?

Generally speaking, people fall into one of two categories: you either regularly make your bed in the morning OR you think it’s silly to make the bed when you’re just going to mess it up again.  So, which is right?

If you’re reading this, chances are you are skimming for the answer and hoping you fall into the proper category.  Well I hate to disappoint you, but there is no right way.  If an unmade bed doesn’t bother you or the people you live with, then leave it be.  If, on the other hand, you are like me and take pleasure in seeing a neatly made bed, then by all means, make the bed.

What I will tell you is that when you work with our organizers, they WILL NOT walk into your home and roll their eyes or push their ideas of clean and uncluttered on you.  What they WILL do is ask the right questions to find out what “organized” means to you.  They’ll ask you to explain what your vision of the outcome looks like and then will work with you to help you reach that goal.

And they will not, unless you specify it as a goal, tell you to go make the bed.
