One of the things that I am most excited about in joining the Living Peace team of professional organizers is that I will get the chance to learn from some of the industry’s best! Though there are many mediums to facilitate the learning process such as books and articles, my greatest learning experience will come from our coach and mentor as well as from my colleagues and clients.
So what did I learn this week? Though there are many things that I have learned so far about the profession and the people, for me one thing really stands out, and that is learning how to Practice Presence. Wow! To me, ‘Awesome’ is the word that I would have to use to describe the sense of being completely present in the moment.
What an awesome feeling to be present, aware, and mindful of your life right now; to ground your entire self, mind and body. What a difference it makes! One colleague described the body as feeling “heavy” which was so accurate – being 100% grounded where we sat. I didn’t realize how unfocused my mind was until we did this exercise. It did not happen without a little bit of effort, but it was well worth it. And to think what an important part it can play in being a professional organizer.
Just consider how much more can be learned while listening to a friend, colleague, or client if you are present and mindfully participating.
I will continue to Practice Presence – and I will see what great things I will learn by doing so.
