Moving Checklist: Change of Address

When we were preparing to move this summer, a friend gave me a checklist of all the places I needed to be sure to change our address.  It was extremely helpful and I wanted to share it.

Note: Be sure to change the address for your spouse/partner as well as for yourself.

Local Venues

  • Post Office – www.usps.gov
  • Voter Registration at City Clerk’s Office in Town Hall
  • Library
  • Registry of Motor Vehicles

Utility Companies – even after you disconnect service so they can send you any credit refunds

  • Cable
  • Internet
  • Phone
  • Cell phone
  • Gas
  • Electric
  • Water

Financial Institutions

  • Banks – both online banks and traditional brick/mortar banks
  • Brokerage Firms
  • Credit Card Companies
  • Loans – student loans, mortgages
  • Charities – where you’ve given in the past year (so they know where to send your tax-deductible receipts)

Human Resources Departments 

  • Current Employers
  • Previous Employers within the past year (so they know where to send your W-2 or other income tax papers)

Insurance Companies
